A recent Pew internet survey found that 31 percent of 18- to 24-year-old Internet users are now Twitter users.
One of the biggest threats to Facebook’s existence is the growing number of adults who are joining and the growing number of users who are turning into adults. Who wants to be part of something that old people and their parents are doing? It’s the ultimate definition of uncool.
Twitter, on the other hand, is popular with celebrities and high profile public figures, which makes it very cool. Given the obsession teens have with celebrities and the fact that Twitter provides teens access to these cool figures in a simple sharing format (140 character updates versus “pages” or “stories”), Twitter clearly has the stronger draw than Facebook.
